Carbon frames

Carbon is probably the strongest of materials with which to make bikes. The weaving of the layers of fibre gives both a forgiving yet lively ride. The ability to mould the material also allowed the development of the monocoque and this combined with the exceptionally low weight, was pushing forward the aesthetics of bike design until the UCI in their wisdom banned them!

Today there are relatively few companies making carbon bikes but remember that the last three Tour de France victories have been on carbon.
